A Little About Me

One of the things I most love about being a counselor is getting to know people like you by listening to your story.  As such, I think it’s only fair that I share with you a bit of my story.

I didn’t become a counselor until I reached my mid-40s.  I started off in finance and spent my 20s thinking that a big investment account would provide the security I never felt in my family.  In my mid-20s, I started to awaken to the fact that “something wasn’t right.”  But, I couldn’t put my finger on what was wrong.

I began reading self-help books and started to realize that my seemingly “together” life was…well, broken.  I didn’t know how to be in an intimate relationship.  I didn’t really know who I was or what I was about.  I was very worried, and I tried to control all aspects of my life.  The problem was that all of my “control” never got me what I wanted!

I have always had a “spiritual side,” and my spirituality was, and still is, a big help.  But by itself, it wasn’t enough.  It wasn’t until I sought out someone to share my story with that the broken places in my life began to emerge—and heal.

I eventually learned about “developmental trauma” and “adverse childhood experiences” (ACEs).  These are situations where you don’t suffer from one particular traumatic event but instead are affected by ongoing adversity—particularly during childhood and adolescence—that “stunts” your emotional and psychological growth.  Many of the problems we face later in life stem from these unresolved issues.

Since that initial awakening, my life has had many twists and turns.  But through it all, I’ve learned that I don’t have to “pull all the levers” to make life work.  Most importantly, I’ve learned to understand and trust my own process that leads me to heal and to grow.  Ultimately, this got me where I needed to be…right here, waiting to meet you and help you find your own life-giving process.

Whether you’re looking for Individual, Couples, or Financial Therapy, I’d love nothing more than to sit down and visit with you to learn more about you and your current situation.  If you’d like to share with me some of your own story, please don’t hesitate to contact me today!
